Description:
The SPACEHAB double module arrives at the Space Station Processing Facility at Kennedy Space Center, Fla. The module takes up a quarter of the orbiter's payload bay. The 10-foot-long pressurized module adds 1100 cubic feet of work space that can hold 61 lockers or experimental racks or a combination of the two. It will be transferred to a canister and moved to Pad 39A where it will be inserted into the payload bay of Atlantis for the STS-86 mission. STS-86 mission is the seventh docking with the Russian Space Station Mir. Atlantis is scheduled to take Mission Specialist David A. Wolf to Mir where he will become a member of the Mir 24 crew. Wolf will replace Michael Foale, the U.S. astronaut who arrived at Mir aboard Atlantis on STS-84 in May. Mission Commander for STS-86 will be James D. Wetherbee, a captain in the U.S. Navy who has flown three times before.
