  • Description: McDonnell Douglas workers in the Spacecraft Assembly and Encapsulation Facility-2 (SAEF-2) are installing a shipping container around the Mars Pathfinder spacecraft/PAM-D upper stage booster assembly in preparation for transferring the Pathfinder to Launch Complex (LC) 17 on Cape Canaveral Air Station. The Pathfinder will be encased in a protective fairing before being mated to the McDonnell Douglas Delta II expendable launch vehicle that will loft it into orbit. Mars Pathfinder is slated for liftoff Dec. 2 from LC 17B.
