MARS PATHFINDER CRUISE STAGE IS UNPACKED IN SAEF-2

  • Description: In the SAEF-2 spacecraft checkout facility at Kennedy Space Center, the lid is removed from the shipping container of the cruise stage and aeroshell of the Mars Pathfinder spacecraft which arrived at KSC on Aug. 13 from the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, CA. The lander of the Pathfinder will be enclosed within the cruise stage during its journey to Mars. Launch of Mars Pathfinder will be aboard a McDonnell Douglas Delta II rocket from Pad 17-B on December 2.
