  • Keywords: SHUTTLE,sts-79
  • Description: The Space Shuttle Atlantis heads back to the shelter of the Vehicle Assembly Building. Managers elected to move Atlantis off Launch Pad 39A due to Hurricane Bertha. While weather forecasters expect the hurricane to change course sometime today and head north, it is presently on a track that could impact Brevard County and the space center. The KSC Hurricane Plan calls for a rollback if there is a possibility of sustained hurricane-force winds at the pad. Rollback to the VAB must be completed before winds reach 40 knots sustained or 60-knot gusts. Atlantis' next mission is STS-79, the fourth docking between the U.S. Space Shuttle and Russian Space Station Mir.
