  • Release Date: 28-Apr-1995

  • Keywords: SHUTTLE,sts-70
  • Description: KSC payload processing team members in the Vertical Processing Facility prepare to close the doors of a payload canister after installation of the Tracking and Data Relay Satellite-G (TDRS-G) and its Inertial Upper Stage (IUS) in the container. The NASA communications satellite is the primary payload for the STS-70 mission. After closeout, the TDRS-G and its booster will be carried out to Launch Pad 39B atop the canister transporter vehicle. Hoses running from the vehicle to the canister will provide an environmentally-controlled atmosphere for the payload during the move. Once at the pad, the canister will be hoisted to the Payload Changeout Room in the Rotating Service Structure and transferred into the payload bay of the Space Shuttle orbiter Discovery.
