Description:
Atlas Centaur 51 stands ready at Complex 36 for launch of the Pioneer Venus Multiprobe which will explorer the Venusian atmosphere in December. Pioneer Venus 2 will join Pioneer Venus 1, launched by KSC on May 20, in enlarging our knowledge of the second planet from the sun. Pioneer Venus 2 carries four probes which will enter the Venusian atmosphere at various points before descending to the planet's surface.
