  • Description: Ready for its wraps, the Pioneer G spacecraft awaits the installation of its protective shroud. The interplanetary space probe is scheduled for launch atop an Atlas Centaur rocket from Cape Kennedy April 5. Pioneer G's nearly two-year mission will take it on a investigation of the asteroid belt, then on to Jupiter, largest planet in our solar system. NASA's launch teams from Kennedy Space Center will handle final testing and the launch itself. The mission is under the direction and control of Ames Research Center.
