Evans and Harrison H. Schmitt were successfully launched from the Kennedy Space Center on the first leg of their launch to the Moon. At the Vice President's right is George Low, Deputy NASA Administrator; Dr. James C. Fletcher, NASA Administrator is standing behind the Vice President; Walter J. Kapryan, center, Director of Kennedy Space Center Launch Operations; and Dr. Hans F. Gruene, extreme right, Director of Kennedy Space Center Launch Vehicle Operations. Liftoff was recorded at 12:35 a.m. EST December 7, 1972.
