  • Description: Technician checks Apollo 17 Mission Commander Eugene A. Cernan's spacesuit during preflight preparations tonight prior to his launch to the Moon with astronauts Ronald E. Evans and Harrison H,. Schmitt. Cernan and Schmitt are scheduled to stay 75 hours on the lunar surface in the Moon's Taurus-Littrow region. Twenty-on of these hours will be spent conducting three extravehicular activities designed to provide additional data about the Moon's origin and composition. This is NASA's sixth and final lunar landing mission in the Apollo program.
