  • Description: Carrying the Apollo 11 Saturn V space vehicle and mobile launcher, the transporter inches its way to the hardstand atop Launch Complex 39A where it positioned the 12.5-million-pound load on support pedestals. (Unfueled Saturn V weighs 1/2 million pounds.) Rollout began at 12:30 p.m. EDT today and was completed at 7:46 p.m. The transporter carried the vehicle along the 3.5- mile crawlerway at an average speed of less than one mile per hour. The 363-foot-high space vehicle is to launch Apollo 11 Astronauts Neil A. Armstrong, Michael Collins and Edwin E. Aldrin Jr. on the Nation's first manned lunar landing mission.
