{description}   Dr. Kurt H. Debus, KSC's first director, was a major speaker at
                the ceremonies ""topping off"" the Vehicle Assembly Building on
                April 14, 1965. A crawler-transporter is at the right. At the
                time of its completion, the 129 million cubic foot structure was
                the largest building in the world. Originally designed and built
                to accommodate the Saturn V/Apollo used in Project Apollo, the
                VAB was later modified for its role in the Space Shuttle program.
